The firm, Messrs Coghlan and Welsh, is one of the oldest and most established firms in Bulawayo in particular and in Zimbabwe as a whole. It was formed in 1903 by Sir Charles Coghlan and Sir Allan Welsh. Sir Coghlan was later on to become the first Premier of Southern Rhodesia from 1923 to 1927 while Sir Welsh later on became the Southern Rhodesia member of Parliament and eventually the Speaker of Parliament. Most recently one of the partners, Nicholas Mathonsi, was elevated to the High Court bench and is now a Judge of the Bulawayo High Court.
