What we do at POSB The People¬ís Own Savings Bank was established principally to mobilise savings and to provide affordable and accessible banking services to Zimbabweans countrywide. The Bank has three principal business units that provide banking services, namely: RETAIL BANKING Retail Banking takes care of the individual banking needs of customers who include high net-worth customers through to Esteem Private Banking, Salaried customers, self-employed, pensioners, unemployed, minors, youths and clubs. Products offered for customers under Retail Banking include Individual Transaction accounts, Club accounts, Savings accounts (Juniorsave, Smartsave and Easysave) and Loans. CORPORATE BANKING Corporate customers benefit from the personalised service and financial advice of our Account Relationship Managers. Our customers include listed and unlisted companies, Government Ministries, Parastatals, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Products and services offered include; Transaction accounts, Loans, Overdraft facilities, Bridging Finance, Order and Debt financing. TREASURY & INTERNATIONAL BANKING The Treasury department offers investments and call accounts. Our strength in this area lies in our competitive interest rates, tax free income on all investments and innovative products. POSB has stood the test of time History of the Bank The People¬ís Own Savings Bank, formerly the Post Office Savings Bank, was established in 1904 to mobilise savings for national development. The Bank commenced its operations through Post Office infrastructure network. Since its creation, the Bank operated as a statutory fund with no legal entity status. In 1965 the Post Office Savings Bank (Chapter 249) was promulgated providing for the administration of the Savings Bank by the Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (PTC) on an agency basis. This position remained so until April 1 2001 when a new act, The People¬ís Own Savings Bank of Zimbabwe Act (Chapter 24:22) was promulgated establishing the Bank as a corporate body to carry-on the business of a Savings Bank. Download POSB ACT. Legal Status The People¬ís Own Savings Bank was created through an Act of Parliament on 1 April 2001 and is wholly owned by the Government of Zimbabwe. The Bank is supervised by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Finance. In April 2001, The People¬ís Own Savings Bank under Act {Chapter 24:22} was promulgated establishing the Savings Bank as a corporate entity. This Act widened the scope of the Bank to be able to undertake the following as summarised in the Act: a) To carry out the business of a savings bank, that is to say, the acceptance of deposits b) To provide banking and financial services for the people of Zimbabwe c) To encourage savings d) To grant loans and advances What we stand for ¬ďTo be a World Class Savings Bank catering for all.¬Ē ¬ďA Savings Bank which provides a broad range of quality,accessible and affordable financial services.¬Ē Corporate Social Responsibility As POSB we are mindful that the Bank does not exist in a vacuum but interacts with the communities in which it exists.
